After high school Chris Sutton pursued opportunities in the Canadian Armed Forces Navy training as a Communication Specialist. After leaving the Navy, he found a unique opportunity in the skilled trades and began his apprenticeship as a Millwright in Toronto. Upon completion of his apprenticeship and achieving his journeyperson status, he worked in all facets of the millwright trade in a variety of sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, food and beverage, power generation, renewable energy and new technologies.

While working in different industries and holding various supervisory positions, he moved to the Windsor area in 2003 continuing to work mainly in the manufacturing and auto sectors throughout Windsor/Essex and Chatham/Kent. During his career in the field, he has worked within the millwright organization in several leadership roles such as a mentor for apprentices and support to the membership in securing more work opportunities across the community for economic growth.

This led him to a more permanent position in the role of Business Representative of the Windsor Millwright Local 1244 where he was responsible for over 200 members, as he continued to address a number of issues affecting the members.

Bringing over 30 years of experience to his current role as Director of Public Affairs for the Millwright Regional Council, Chris is responsible for bringing issues and concerns of over 10,000 members across Canada to government. His day-to-day duties find him engaging all levels of government in discussions around a variety of issues his members face such as Immigration policies, Childcare issues, Global Investments to Canada, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the skilled trades workforce across Canada.

As a husband, father and grandfather he enjoys spending time with his family. He enjoys the outdoors, kayaking, fishing, hunting and just relaxing at home on his porch sharing special moments with his wife and family.
